Designing engaging online content for an award-winning children’s media company

It’s incredible how a story can transport you to any place your imagination will allow.
— Trevor Romain
  • When creating content for Comical Sense, Comfort Kids, or Trevor Romain’s main accounts, it was extremely important to keep in mind the audience and their needs for each respective channel. Whether I was communicating with parents, caretakers, educators or kids themselves, I took care to target posts and videos to their most applicable needs and wants from our products.

I spent the majority of my time with the company working on Comical Sense, which was an animated video series hosted by Trevor that gave kids voice and language to talk about things like bullying, homework, and losing a family member. These topics can be hard to talk about, but I found it really important to start and facilitate these conversations so that adults would have the tools necessary to have those discussions when the time came.

  • I had a great learning experience working with TweetDeck, Facebook, and other post schedulers in this position. Staying on top of content was a continuing challenge, and I was able to grow my writing skills by meeting those deadlines and coming up with interesting ways to talk about the Comical Sense series and other resources on the Trevor Romain site. A lot of the content is based on fostering positivity, so at times I had to take some of my own medicine when approaching these new challenges!

  • In addition to marketing, the Trevor Romain Company recognizes and celebrates many child-centered holidays throughout the year. I supported our social media approaches to this by proactively contacting animators and other staff members to have materials ready to post on those days, and collaborating to create cross-platform engagement to increase follower numbers.
